D. R. (Bob) Powell
Founder of Powell Funeral Homes
David Robert "Bobby" Powell, Sr., well-known Bald Knob resident,
died Saturday, September 30, 2006 at his home. He was 84 years of
age. Mr. Powell was born January 17, 1922 in Altus, Arkansas, the
son of Raymond and Floy Reid Powell. Bob was raised in Morrilton
and from an early age worked with his family at the Reid Funeral
Home, remaining there with the Harris family until 1960. He was a
veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving in World War II,
a 33rd degree Scottish Rites mason and a member of the Albert Pike
Temple in Little Rock. Mr. Powell was a member of the Central
Baptist Church in Bald Knob, where he was a Deacon being ordained
on December 15, 1963. Mr. Bob was respected in the community as
well as the funeral industry having purchased Powell Funeral Home
in 1960. He was the 2005 Citizen of the Year for Bald Knob and
serves on the Board of Directors for Selected Funeral and Life
Insurance Company, which he help found in the early 1960's. He was
a past member of the Lyda P Miller Library Board, Bald Knob Housing
Authority, Bald Knob Industrial Development Commission and the Bald
Knob Education Committee. He also previously served as a member and
president of the Bald Knob Rotary Club and the Lions Club, and
served on the board for the Shady Grove Cemetery and the Bald Knob
Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Powell was a past president of the
Arkansas Funeral Directors Association and has been Funeral
Director of the year for the state of Arkansas. He served several
terms and as Chairman of the Arkansas Burial Association Board. For
several years, he was Secretary and Treasurer of the Arkansas Club
of Burial Associations. Mr. Bob had a big heart and was always very
generous with his time. Paramount for him was his family, church,
community, and his chosen profession, which was his life's calling.
He always greeted everyone with a big smile and a friendly word and
usually had something witty to add. He was a friend to everyone he
met and counselor to many.

David has been involved in fuenral service his entire life. He
is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and is currently
serving as the White County Coroner. David has served his
profession well through the years, having served on many boards on
both state and national levels. He has also been very active in
many civic clubs and other causes serving the White County area.
David and his wife Cathy, who also assists at the funeral homes,
reside in Searcy and are the parents of four children.

Tyler Hyatt

Tyler manages the day-to-day operations at the Bald Knob
facility and is a licensed funeral director/embalmer, White County
Deputy Coroner and owner of the Hyatt Monument Company. He is
a native of Woodruff County and graduated from McCrory High School
in 1991. In 1994, he married the former Amy Miller and made
Bald Knob home. He and Amy are the parents of three wonderful
children: Peyton, Meredith and Camryn. Tyler has served as Chamber
of Commerce President as well as numerous years on their Board of
Directors and is a past Bald Knob School Board member. He is a
member of the Bald Knob Rotary Club and is a member of the
Shady Grove Cemetery Board. Tyler is also currently serving
(2011-2012) as President-Elect of the Arkansas Funeral
Directors Association and is a member of the National Funeral
Directors Association. He has been very involved in the
baseball and softball programs in the community and enjoys hunting
and hanging out on the river with family and friends as well as
rooting for the Bald Knob Bulldog football teams. The Hyatts are
members of the Central Baptist Church.

Funeral Director
David is a fourth generation funeral director and has been
involved in funeral service his entire life. He has been active in
many civic organizations through the years, serving as President of
the Bald Knob Chamber of Commerce and President of the Bald Knob
Rotary Club. David resides in Bald Knob and has three children:
Nicole, Robbie and Ben.

Ciley joined the Powell Funeral Home staff in October, 2010 as a
licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer and a licensed
pre-need/insurance counselor. She is from Bradford, Arkansas where
she graduated high school in 2007. Ciley graduated from Arkansas
State University - Mt. Home in 2010 with a degree in Funeral
Science. She loves sports, the outdoors, watching her nieces
(Morgan and Presley) play basketball as well as spending time with
her nephew, Aedan.

Billy McGillvray
Funeral Assistant
Billy, a life-long resident of White County, has been
affiliated with the Powell Funeral Homes since the early
1960's. He assists with funerals as wells as many other duties
around the funeral homes. He and his wife Yvonne have 3 children
and 4 grandchildren and are members of the Bradford Church of
Christ.

Amy Hyatt
Insurance Clerk/Secretary

Amy joined the Powell Funeral Home staff in September, 2009 and
serves as the secretary and insurance clerk in the Bald Knob
office. She oversees the billing of the Collison and Briggs
Burial Associations as well as the Selected Funeral and Life policy
holders. She files insurance claims and handles many
other office duties and recently became licensed to assist families
with funeral expense insurance and pre-need funeral plans. She is
married to Tyler Hyatt and they have 3 children; Peyton, Meredith
and Camryn. She enjoys the outdoors, traveling and Bald Knob
Bulldog football and cheerleading.

Gene Martin
Funeral Director
Gene is a licensed funeral director and assists the
funeral homes, part-time, with funerals and visitations. He has
owned and operated several sucessful businesses in White County
throughout the years and been active in civic affairs. He and
wife Freda are active memebers of the Westside Church of
Christ in Searcy.

Pre-need Counselor
Don has been a valued member of our staff since 2008 and
has numerous years experience in the pre-need/final expense field.
Don and wife Peggy are natives of the Hope, Arkansas area and have
been residents of Searcy for over 10 years. Don also serves as
a Church of Christ minister in South Arkansas.

Don Barron
Funeral Assistant
Don assists the funeral homes with evening visitations as
well as funerals. He has been active in area funeral homes for
nearly 10 years and enjoys helping the families we serve. He is a
life-long resident of White County and resides in Bradford. He is a
member of the Bradford Baptist Church where he has served as deacon
for a number of years.

Emily, the daughter of David and Cathy Powell, is responsible
for video tributes and collages and is the fourth generation of the
Powell Family to be active in the funeral homes.
