Alvin Lloyd Ostrander

Alvin Lloyd Ostrander, 67, of Thida passed away peacefully May 15, 2022 in McCrory. He was born in Bradford April 13, 1955. Alvin grieved the death of his twin brother, Calvin Floyd Ostrander in 1957, all of his life . Because of this Alvin had a love/hate relationship with God. He believed, was baptized for forgiveness of his sins and at one time could quote scripture. Then there was a time that he would question why? Why couldn’t it have been him to die instead of his brother? Why, why he’d ask God as he sat by his brother’s grave so many times. During his childhood and youth, Alvin was abused and bullied, which made him a very tough and resilient man. He was like the old Timex watches, he could take a licking and keep on ticking. He loved big trucks and considered himself a professional truck driver. He always dreamed of owning his own rig. He was very good at keeping his own heartaches and pain to himself. So mostly what people saw was a man who hid his problems behind his loud mouth and his aggravating ways. He enjoyed seeing what it would take to make someone mad and was really good at knowing people, sometimes better than they knew themselves. Alvin loved a good joke/prank which got him in trouble many, many times. He truly loved the Thida community and thought people drove entirely too fast. He often referred to himself as the “Thida speed bump”, many people know firsthand why. For the last almost 2 years of his life he called Woodruff County Nursing Home his home. When asked if he wanted to go back to Thida he said, “this is my home now!” He loved and was loved by the staff. No one ever loved their daughter more than he did. He tried to teach her how to survive the cruelty this life often brings. He tried to have good things for her to wear to school, would see to it she had something to eat and would help her fix her hair. He tried to teach her all he had learned about life and people, which has made her the strong, self-sufficient woman and good mother she is today. Alvin was preceded in death by: Twin brother, Calvin Floyd Ostrander His grandparents, Gabe and Lucy Altom, Harvey and Claire Ostrander. Parents, Lloyd Ostrander, Vida and Bill Bentley Alvin leaves behind to grieve Estranged wife, Brenda Moncier Ostrander Daughter, Nicole Ostrander Jones (Michael) Grandson, Asher Dewayne Jones One sister, Debra Wilson (Homer) One half sister, Sandra Ostrander Rentz Half brothers, Kevin Pratt (Shelly) and Melvin Ostrander Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
