Anna P. Mitchell Carter

Anna P. Mitchell Carter, age 100, departed from this life on Sunday, October 23, 2022. She was born on June 26, 1922 in Ballard County, Kentucky to the late William Curtis Mitchell and Mallie Catherine Reesor Mitchell. After being born and living in Kentucky until age seven, she moved to Detroit, Michigan with her family for her father and brothers to work. They found work at General Motors and Fisher Body Motor Company. Her father died suddenly of a heart attack at age 62. Two of her brothers worked at General Motors to help support the family. She attended North Western High School in Detroit. She married her loving husband, Dennis Wesley Carter Jr. on June 13, 1942. After 43 years of marriage he passed away from this life on July 6, 1985. They were blessed with two daughters, Carol Ann Carter Hendon (husband Hermon) of Searcy, Arkansas, and Joan Dee Carter Palmer (husband Edward) of Searcy, Arkansas. Anna has three grandchildren, Laura Hendon Burks (Bryan) of Searcy, Arkansas and Debbie Hendon Shoemaker (Tommy) of Little Rock, Arkansas and Todd Carter Hendon of Searcy, Arkansas. She has six great grandchildren, Emily Burks Meyer (Chris), Carter Burks (Kelsey), Weston Burks (Holly), Leigh Shoemaker Mohorn (Ian), Abby Shoemaker Sipe (Carter), and Cole Shoemaker. She has 2 great great grandchildren, Lincoln Meyer and Mallie Ann Meyer. Anna was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, Reesor Mitchell, Mildred Mitchell Miller, William Bradley Mitchell, Howard Mitchell, Ezma Mitchell Stokes, Ava Mitchell, Josephine Mitchell, Stephen Mitchell, and Martha Mitchell DeAngelo. Anna has been a member of College Church of Christ in Searcy since moving here in 1995. Prior to being a member in Searcy, she was a member for many years at the Dearborn, MI Church of Christ. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., at Powell Funeral Home, 2602 W. Beebe-Capps in Searcy, AR. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9:00a.m. Interment will be in Nashville, TN at Spring Hill Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Harding University, Box 12238, Searcy, AR 72145, Rochester University 800 W.
