Arthur “Art” Wells, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2025, at the age of 94. Art is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Wells; daughters Vicki Martin, Kathi (David) Merritt, and Lori (Dave) Dean; grandchildren Kami (Jim) Horton, Sam (Amy) Shores, Joel (Lori) Shores, Beverly (Matthew) Williams, Melissa (Brett) Jones, Jeremy Martin, Katrina (Barry) Green, Rachel (Steve) Simecek, and Phillip Dean; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved each one dearly. Art began his aviation journey as a jet mechanic in the United States Air Force, where his fascination with flight took root. That passion carried him into a lifetime in the skies—earning his pilot’s license, becoming a flight instructor, and acquiring multiple aviation licenses, including Airline Transport Pilot. Over the years, he flew helicopters, gliders, Learjets, and float planes. Additionally, he was a certified A&P mechanic. He also owned and operated an airport and flying service in Utah before later serving with the Federal Aviation Administration. Every step reflected his dedication, skill, and adventurous spirit. For 18 years of retirement, Art and Sally served as active Sojourners—a group of servant-hearted Christians who travel in RVs to help ministries in need. Their hearts were especially drawn to children’s homes and camps, where they poured love, time, and hard work into creating safe, welcoming spaces for young people. Art also served on the Sojourners’ board, offering both leadership and hands-on skills, always with a willing spirit and a smile that reflected his joy in serving the Lord. Art was known for his impish sense of humor, quick wit, and love for life. He had a competitive streak, especially when playing his favorite card game, Hand-and-Foot—and he much preferred winning at it. Above all, Art loved the Lord and served Him faithfully, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, service, and joy. A celebration of Art’s life will be held on August 16, 2025, at Westside Church of Christ in Searcy, AR. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
