Betty Ruth Summar

Betty Ruth Summar (née Fowler), 86, of Possum Grape, Arkansas, transitioned from this life on Sunday, September 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born November 28, 1938, to Oplis Fowler and Verna Mae Fowler (née Jones) in Cincinnati, OH, and raised in East Gary, IN, where she matriculated through the Gary public school system. She then made her way to Hobart, Indiana, where she built a life for herself and her family. In 1984, she moved to Possum Grape, Arkansas, a place she would proudly call home for the rest of her years. Betty was a woman of deep faith who always trusted in God, and she lived a life as colorful and vibrant as she was. She had a resilient spirit and work ethic that carried her through every stage of life. Over the years, she had many talents and careers from modeling and hairdressing, to bartending at the Country Lounge and The Patio, to owning Possum Grape’s finest Vintage Auto Salvage. She had a heart for people and volunteered for Hospice for five years. Betty brought her warmth and laughter to everything she did and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Family was always at the center of Betty’s heart. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons – Steve Nasiatka (Sheila), Birmingham, AL, Bob Nasiatka (Tammy), Portage, IN, and Ken Nasiatka (Melissa), Possum Grape, AR; stepdaughter Carolyn Hartley (Larry), Valparaiso, IN, and stepson Jim Summar, Yuma, AZ; special niece, Nancy Stephan, Atlanta, GA, with whom she shared a unique bond that has remained constant throughout the years; her precious grandchildren Cody Nasiatka (Jennifer), Rhiannon Jennings (Nick), Jeremy Parker, Mike Nasiatka (Amanda), Christina Nasiatka, Sarah Edmonds (Kaden), Kendyl Nasiatka (Jon), Kim Grimes (Josh), Beth Wilson, Ryan Hartley (Katie), Todd Summar (Ken), and Cody Mills, along with a growing number of 28 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who filled her days with laughter and love. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edwin Summar, stepson Terry Summar and Stepdaughter Patti Wilson, and sisters Emma Sue Stephan and Jean Doris Hirsch. Those who knew Betty will remember her as a strong, independent woman with a giving heart and a sharp wit. Her legacy is one of hard work, love, and resilience. The countless memories she leaves behind will continue to inspire her family for generations. Services will be conducted at Powell Funeral Home of Bradford on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Visitation will be from 1:00pm-2:00pm. Funeral Service will immediately follow beginning at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Coffeyville Cemetery in Bradford.
