Booker T. Murray

Booker T. Murray, Sr. was born to Jessie Murray and Johnny Wesson on April 11, 1947 in Fitzhugh, Arkansas. He received his education at Carver High School. Booker T. Sr. accepted Christ at an early age. In February 1972, he met and married the love of his life Ruby Jean Pennington and from that union six children were born. One daughter, Veronica Murray, five sons, Quinton Murray, Antwoine Neal-Murray(Neal), Rocky Murray, Booker T. Murray, Jr., and Jimmy Murray (Corley). Booker was a mellow and humble man. Outside spending time with his family and loving the Lord, Booker loved gardening and fishing. He loved using his gardening skills and techniques to beatify the New Holly Grove church grounds. Booker worked for the City of Augusta as a sanitation worker until he was diagnosed with his illness. He was a proud and loyal member of New Holly Grove Church under the pastorate of Pastor Chester Gilmore. Booker served as an ordained deacon and sung in the male chorus. Booker departed this earthly life on Saturday, August 21, 2021 in McCrory, Arkansas at the Woodruff County Health Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jean Pennington-Murray, both parents, his son, Jimmy Murray (Corley), six siblings: Beulah Hardy, Jessie W. Murray, Helen Winston, Betty Jean Ferguson, James Murray, Ellen Murray, and Allen Murray, He leaves to cherish precious and fond memories one daughter; Veronica Murray (Brandi) of Las Vegas, Nevada, four sons, Quinton Murray of Las Vegas, Nevada, Antwoine Murray (Arrika) of McCrory, Arkansas, Rocky Murray of Newport, Arkansas, and Booker T. Murray, Jr. of Augusta, Arkansas; two sisters, Clementine Brown-Murray of Searcy Arkansas and Sharon Wren of Long Beach, California; Alex Murray of Augusta, Arkansas, Donald Murray of Searcy, Arkansas, and Larry Murray of Augusta, Arkansas and host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A memorial service celebrating the life of Booker T. Murray will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Augusta.
