Carolyn "McElyea" Hayes

It is with great sadness that the family of Carolyn “McElyea” Hayes announces her passing on Monday March, 31, 2025, in Bald Knob, Arkansas. Carolyn was born April 18, 1952 in Beedeville, Arkansas to Euwell and Ersel McElyea. She had 4 older brothers, 2 older sisters, and her baby brother Donnie, with Betty and Mary Jo always treating her like she was their own baby. Carolyn was also blessed to have Sue and Roger raised like her own brother and sister. Her love for her siblings spread far and wide. Carolyn started her family early in life with her daughters, Sherry and Teresa, who were always “thick as thieves and full of love” as they would all say. Her grandchildren who she was so proud of and maybe spoiled a lot were Eli, Rudy, Morgan, Maria, and Madison. And her great grandchildren being Konlee, Karis, Lyla, Nellie, and Waylon who each held a very special place in her heart and brought her great happiness. Despite ongoing health issues throughout life, Carolyn never strayed away from hard work and lived a very full and active life with her family, while falling into her passion of “wheeling and dealing” and never turning down a good thrift. She shared this passion with longtime companion, Calvin Scott whom she traveled, worked, danced and took many many trips to Branson with the grandkids. Carolyn was proceeded in death by her parents; her brothers, Houston, EW, Donnie; sister Mary Jo; her Uncle Leonard and grandmother Dolie Jackson who always held a special place in her heart. On behalf of Carolyn and the family, we would like to thank her favorite caregiver, Carissa Beard, who went above and beyond and who Carolyn loved very much. Also thank you to Heather Cloyes, Keely, Jake, Erin, Stephanie, Trish, Katie, Chaplin Nick and many more with Arkansas Hospice, who showed great care and compassion in their care for Carolyn. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Powell Funeral Home of Bradford from 2:00pm-3:00pm. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 3:00pm. Private Interment will be held at Eight Mile Cemetery in Beedeville, Arkansas at a later date due to expected weather. Arrangements were entrusted to Powell Funeral Home of Bradford.
