David Burnley

David Burnley, aged 72 of Searcy, Arkansas, peacefully left this life and entered into the arms of Jesus on April 8, 2010. Born December 19, 1937 in Kevil, Kentucky, he was the seventh child of Willie and Ora Burnley. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jack Burnley, O.T. Burnley, James Burnley and one sister, Edna Darnell. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sylvia "Bunny" Burnley of Searcy, one sister Mary Epps of Edwardsville, Illinois, and three brothers, Bill Burnley ( Marie) of Murray, Kentucky, Charles Burnley (Susan) of Searcy, Arkansas, and Wayne Burnley (wife Jackie) of Brandon, Mississippi; a second mother, Hazel Bean Webb of Searcy, a brother-in-law Fred Bean (Glenda) of Little Rock, eleven nieces, six nephews, other relatives and a multitude of friends. Mr. Burnley was a member of First United Methodist Church of Searcy where he served on different committees and at different times as a Sunday School teacher. He was a man of God who believed in building and strengthening his church so that more could find the peace of Christ that he knew. Mr.Burnley graduated from Kensett High School in 1954 and earned degrees from State Teachers College (now UCA) of Conway and Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He was a strong advocate for education in the state and loved to support local and state sports teams. Mr. Burnley's past accomplishments included Superintendent of Schools at Pangburn, Pleasant Plains and Concord; Assistant Director of the Wilbur D. Mills Education Service Cooperative; Chairman of the Arkansas Association of School Administrators; Chairman of the Northcentral Arkansas Workforce Education Board; President and lifetime member of the White County Athletic Association; Wilbur Mills Treatment Advisory Board; Searcy Airport Commission; North Central Arkansas Private Industry Council; Searcy Park and Recreation Board; White County Regional Library; President of the River Oaks Trace Condominium Association; Arkansas Workforce Investment Board; and Past Master Kensett Lodge #674. Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. on Saturday. Funeral Service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Searcy. Interment will follow in White County Memorial Gardens.
