Dwane Cecil Whatley

Dwane Cecil Whatley, 84, of Augusta, Arkansas departed this life on March 31, 2025 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born August 31, 1940 in Cullman, Alabama to the late Cecil Pete and Pauleen Elvira Whatley. On May 6, 2023 he married Karen Resseguie Whatley. Dwane was a beloved member of the Augusta community. He was known for his extraordinary work ethic and dependability. Dwane was employed with Eldridge Supply Co for over 20 years until his retirement. After retirement, he opened his own tire shop in Augusta that he operated for over 24 years. Dwane enjoyed fishing when he was able and had a great love for animals, especially his dog. He enjoyed the time he spent with his wife and step great grandchildren who lived with him. He was also a member of Grace Baptist Church where he attended with his daughter. He will be greatly missed by his family and by his community. He is survived by, his wife, Karen Whatley, he was a hard working loving father of four daughters, Donna Jean Everett, Debra Ann “Deb” Moon (Johnny Johnson), Carol Sue Nelson, Tammy Waine Atkins (Jody), Step Son, Jonathan “Jon” Fortune, grandchildren, Cristie Ashby, Joel Coles, Kanen Skinner (Samantha), Jenifer Taylor, Jessica Burnett (Matt), Miranda Carter, Lesley Carter II “Bubba”, Faith Castleberry, Tyler Johnson, and Kyle Johnson, nineteen great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and his sister, Bernice Renick (Elmo Tyler). He is also survived by his beloved dog and companion, Pooh Butt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bobbie Whatley, his stepson, Christopher Fortune, brother, Dewy Ray Whatley, and his sisters, Barbara Ann, Erma Jean, and Elaine; son-in-law, Bobby Nelson. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Augusta, Arkansas. Visitation will be held prior to services from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private at Augusta Memorial Park in Augusta, Arkansas. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Bruce Curl, Hunter Boyd, Kanen Skinner, Kyle Johnson, Bubba Carter, and Joel Coles. Arrangements are entrusted to Powell Funeral Home of Woodruff County.
