Evelyn Gray Matlock

Evelyn Gray Matlock was born in Clarendon, Arkansas on September 3, 1922 to the late Frank and Rosa (Roberds) Gray. She went to be with the Lord Monday, November 16, 2020 at River Ridge Rehab in Wynne. She graduated from Clarendon High School in 1942. She married Carlee Fowler who preceded her in death in 1969. In later years, she married James Lee Matlock who preceded her in death in 1998. She lived most of her adult years in the Pumpkin Bend community until she moved to Colt, Arkansas in 2000. For many years, she worked at the shoe factories in McCrory and Newport and later worked for home health in Woodruff County for 12 years before retiring. She taught children’s Sunday School for over 50 years in the Assembly of God Church in Pumpkin Bend and McCrory where she was a member. After moving to Colt, she taught the Lady’s Class in Sunday School for around 12 years at the Forrest City Baptist Church where she was a member. Evelyn loved reading her Bible and attending church as well as visiting the nursing homes. She truly loved her family and everyone else. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing and going to the Senior Citizen’s Center. When you said go; she was ready! She was also ready to go Home to her Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands and a granddaughter, Paula Hollowell; grandson, Randall Holman; step-daughter, Essie Campbell and a step-son, Austin Fowler; a sister, Nora Skinner; nephews, John Gillion, Mitchell Gillion and Paul Gillion. She is survived by her daughter, Rosa Lee Neal (George) of Colt; 3 grandsons, Barry Bryant (Terry) of Wynne, Benjamin Hollowell of Caldwell and Rodney Holman of Pine Tree; granddaughter, Michelle Quinn (Ben) of Morrilton; 6 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Dora Nelson and Evie Ogden of Brinkley; nephews, Jimmy Gillion (Carolyn) of McCrory and Corby Gillion (Lynn) of Clarendon and her special dog companion, Pepper. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 from 2:00 – 2:30 p.m. at Woodman Cemetery near McCrory.
