Evlyn H. Daniel

Evlyn H. Daniel of Searcy, Arkansas passed on peacefully to her eternal home on December 27, 2022. She was born on June 14, 1933, in the home of her grandparents in Jackson, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Dorothy McKelvy Hooker and Luther Paul Hooker. Her early years were spent in Memphis, Tennessee. She eventually moved back to Jackson to complete elementary school and attend Junior High and High School. After graduation she went to Freed Hardeman College and David Lipscomb college in Tennessee. It was there that she met her sweetheart, James Daniel. They married on December 28, 1956, and moved to James’ hometown of Albany, Georgia. They had three children, Ginny, David and Jeff while living in Albany. In 1969, the family moved to Searcy, Arkansas to get involved with Harding University and Christian education. Evlyn was friendly and outgoing. She loved having people in her home. She always made you feel welcome and part of the family. She had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh that had you joining in with her. Evlyn loved children and taught bible classes at churches where she worshipped. She became the coordinator of the cradle roll department at College Church of Christ and served in this area for many years. She and her husband James became sponsors for the Titans Men’s social club at Harding when their sons became members. They became a mom and dad figure to so many students who were away from home attending Harding. They continued to serve in this capacity for nineteen years. Evlyn became a caregiver for her mom when she became sick. Later in life her husband became sick, and she was his caregiver as well. She was a true example of living a life of commitment and being a servant. She loved the Lord, her family and so many others. She has left us a great legacy and big shoes to fill. She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy, husband James, and two brothers Paul Hooker and John Carr. Those left to honor her memory are her three children and their spouses, one brother Jim Carr, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Avenir Memory Care and House of Three. She was loved and well cared for at both places. They affectionally called her Memaw. Words cannot express how thankful we are for those who cared for her. There will be a visitation on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy at 1:30 followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:30.
