Hazel Lavonne Randolph

Hazel Lavonne Randolph, affectionately known as Lavonne, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, in Searcy, Arkansas, at the age of 79. Born on December 20, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri, Lavonne's life was a testament to love, service, and the pursuit of beauty through art and music. Lavonne's heart was as warm as her home, which she always filled with laughter and the aroma of delicious home-cooked meals. She had an unparalleled gift for hospitality, often inviting friends, family, and visitors from each of the churches she and Jim attended throughout their years of service. Her unwavering kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her. A devoted teacher and mentor, Lavonne dedicated much of her life to the education and support of others, particularly through her work teaching cradle roll and training teachers across the country. Her passion for nurturing young minds and guiding fellow educators has left a legacy that will continue to inspire generations. Lavonne's artistic talents were many, and she found immense joy in knitting and sewing, especially creating quilts and baby blankets that brought warmth and comfort to countless recipients. Her love for music was expressed beautifully through her participation in various choirs, including the Paducah Kentucky Symphony Chorus, the San Angelo Texas Symphony Chorus, and Ft Worth Schola Cantorum. Her voice was a gift she shared generously, uplifting those around her with each note. Lavonne was recognized for her contributions and dedication to her community, earning the title of Woman of the Year in Sulphur Springs, Texas, in 1976. Her faith and involvement with the churches of Christ were central to her life, providing her with strength and a sense of belonging. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Hazel Leroux, and her cherished grandson Jayden Gregor. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her memory dear: her husband, Jim Randolph; her son, Chris Randolph, and his wife, Carisse; her daughter, Deana Gregor, and her husband, David; her daughter, Stacey Neely, and her husband, Marcus; and her daughter Judy Randolph. She was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 7 (and a half) great-grandchildren, and she opened her heart and home to 17 foster children, touching each of their lives in profound ways. Lavonne is also survived by her five sisters, Eula Reed, Melba Figgins, Sandy McAllister, Rhonda Wallace, and Debbie Sullins, whose bonds of sisterhood were a source of joy and support throughout her life. A memorial service to celebrate Lavonne's life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the College Church of Christ in Searcy, Arkansas. Her legacy of love, service, and creativity will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Lavonne will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the light she brought into the world.
