Jimmie Louis "Red" Johnson

Jimmie Louis Johnson “Red” was born on June 20, 1939, to Buster and Freda Johnson in Searcy, Arkansas. Red was the third of 13 children Buster and Freda would have. Red married Nancy Louise Ables, of Eldorado, Arkansas in May of 1965. Red and Nancy have two children Jeff (married Andrea Poteet, now deceased) and Vicky (married Craig Mashburn); 4 grandchildren, Emma-Leigh Johnson, Jessica Kilpatrick (married to Sean), Stephen Mashburn (married to Shania) and Michael Mashburn; and, one great grandson Christian Kilpatrick. Red was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, his daughter-in-law Andrea, his parents, his brothers, London, Billy, and Tommy; sisters, Bonnie Johnson and Peggy Paris. He is survived by two sisters, Willie Johnson and Kay Rhode, five brothers, James Johnson, Wendell Johnson, Harvey Johnson, Sam Johnson, and Ray Johnson, and a large extend family of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many, many others. Red liked to do things. He was not one to sit around the house. He liked to go camping and fishing. He liked to garden and loved eating what he grew. Red and Nancy loved to travel. If it was just to the lake at Heber Springs, to Branson, or a cross country train trip. Red truly liked to help people. There were times when he would spend a Sunday afternoon on the first really cold day of winter going from house to house firing up furnaces for widows from the church, sometimes replacing small parts and never even telling them, just to get their houses warm, or working on their cars, just to keep them running. Red was never one to deliver a speech or sermon on how to live or treat others. His life showed how to do that. He volunteered to take groups to Puerto Rico to support Joe and Velma Cuellar. He volunteered to take doctors to Mexico and provide medical care in extremely rural areas. He would drive to the community in Mexico pulling a trailer with the medical supplies and food. Red would cook while dentist and medical doctors pulled teeth, set broken bones, and performed surgeries. Red will be missed by all who know him. Most of all by his family who truly loved him.
