Joe Lee Key

With grateful hearts for a life well lived, we announce the passing of a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, and friend, Joe Lee Key, on July 18, 2026, at the age of 86. He was a man whose greatest treasures in life were his faith, his family, and the simple joys that filled his days. He was blessed with four children, Sandy Thorne (Rickey), Nita Brooks (Thadd), Debbie McKinney (Scott), Jason Key (Tasha); four step-children, Mona Coots (Don), Debbie Isom, Johnny Wheetley (Fredese), as well as Lisa Ann Short who preceded him in death; step son-in-law, Bruce Short; 14 grandchildren, an abundance of great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his love, wisdom, and generous spirit. He was twice blessed in love. He shared 44 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lola Mae Matthews, with whom he built a loving home in Palestine and raised their four children together. Following Lola Mae’s passing, God graciously brought Ms. Joann into his life, where they shared 17 wonderful years together, living in Judsonia, which he really enjoyed! He was always bragging about leaving the mosquitoes behind! Joann will miss her husband and best friend. She lovingly embraced not only him but his large family, bringing joy, companionship, and countless cherished memories! He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Whether tending his large garden, casting a fishing line, searching for treasures at yard sales and flea markets, or finding a good bargain, he approached life with enthusiasm and gratitude. He especially loved giving to others, lending a helping hand whenever he could, and spending time surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. His life was a beautiful example of hard work, kindness, generosity, and unconditional love. He loved Jesus and wanted everyone he knew to love Jesus too. He was fortunate to spend his final years doing the things that brought him the greatest happiness, living life on his own terms until the very end. While his family mourns his passing, they also celebrate a life richly lived and the countless memories he leaves behind. His legacy of love, generosity, and devotion to family will continue through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved. Services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Powell Funeral Home in Bald Knob. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. and Funeral Service will immediately follow beginning at 10:00a.m. with Bro. Doug Swindle officiating. Interment will be held at Hopewell Cemetery in Palestine (Gill Community), Arkansas at 2:00p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Powell Funeral Home of Bald Knob-Judsonia.
