Martha Marie "Marty" Mason

Martha (Marty) Marie Mason (83) of Velvet Ridge, passed from this life on November 6, 2022, in her home. She was born on December 16, 1938, in Fredonia, Kansas to Perry and Nadine North. Marty was a faithful Christian at the Velvet Ridge Church of Christ for most of her adult life. She loved teaching children’s Bible study when her health allowed, and she organized a multitude of Vacation Bible Schools during her time in the church. Marty proudly led a church ministry she called “Quilting for Jesus” and loved giving handmade quilts to the elderly and orphans in her community. She had a remarkable green-thumb and excitedly shared her flowers with anyone who would take them. Marty dabbled in all crafts and loved teaching her grandchildren how to sew, crochet, make and paint ceramics, and cook homemade yeast rolls that were always the talk of any holiday meal. Her sweet smile, quick laughter, and unconditional love will be desperately missed by her family and all who knew her. Above all, Marty loved the Lord, but a close second was her love for her husband Jerry of over 60 years, who preceded her in death by exactly five years and 10 minutes. She is survived by her four children Linda Mason, Brenda Roland (Kelly), Keith Mason, and Patsy Selvidge (Paul). Marty was known as the worlds greatest Nana and is survived by her 8 grandchildren: Amber Fortune (Jason Pugh), Megan McCall (Aaron), Sarah Bland (Mitchell), Autumn Rabalais, Blake Foster (Aerielle), Embry Thompson (Randall), Billy Wayne Hensley, Josh Mason, and great-granchildren: Dylan Fortune, Micayla Burton, Kristen Pearson, Maverick McCall, Gunar Bland, Allie Bland, Lendzie Waggle, Logann Rabalais, Bella Foster, Waylon Foster, Kit Foster, Andrew Thompson, and Adelyn Thompson. Marty is also survived by her very best friend, whom she called her sister, Marlene Mason and two sisters, Aladean and Maxine. She is preceded in death by her great-granddaughter Annabelle Rabalais, brother Bobby North, parents Nadine and Perry, and beloved aunt May Jeffries. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Velvet Ridge Church of Christ. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Velvet Ridge Cemetery.
