Mary Jewell (Prince) Galloway

Mary Jewell (Prince) Galloway, known as Jewell, passed away in her home in San Antonio, TX. on Thursday, May 22, 2025. She was ninety-nine years of age. Mary was born in McCrory; the daughter of the late John Ottis and Izora Glenn Prince and Jewell was preceded by her eleven siblings. She is survived by her daughter Sharon and her husband Al Vazquez, their children Carlos (Jessica) Vazquez and Erika Vazquez, her stepson Troy (Patti) Galloway, their children Greg Galloway and Ami (Jimmy) Sellers, and her 9 great-grandchildren Sarah, Elizabeth, Rita, Marcelino, Lucas, Jack, Ferris, Smith and McCoy and by nieces and nephews and their extended families. In 1946 she married the former Charles (Chuck) Galloway. They resided in southern California for 41 years. She was a devoted mother and home maker. She enjoyed creating things. Her hands were always busy either stirring up some new recipe in the kitchen or outside tending to her garden. She also loved to sew. She and her husband Chuck enjoyed reading, playing Chess, and working on puzzles. In 1987, at the passing of her husband, Jewell moved to Plano Tx to be close to her daughter and family. From there, she would make frequent trips to Arkansas to reunite with her brothers and sisters. She was especially close to her twin brother Johnny and her sister-in-law Patsy. It was not long before she decided to move back to Patterson. She and her siblings loved spending time together, reminiscing or playing a hot game of Pitch that could last for hours. These were happy years. Spending time together was what really mattered. She lived independently up to her 90th birthday. In 2016, due to her age Jewel moved to San Antonio Tx. to live with her daughter and son-in-law She loved being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren that lived close by. Jewell was the kind of woman who always said what was on her mind. She was great at eliciting a laugh with her quirky remarks. She kept that spirit all the way to the end. She was a small person with a big heart, courageous and resilient. If she were to pick one value to pass on to future generations, it would be to love and nurture one’s family. With your family, you have everything. Her memory will continue to live on in those whose lives she touched. Graveside memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Fakes Cemetery in McCrory, Arkansas. Arrangements are entrusted to Powell Funeral Home of Woodruff County.
