Melvin Lonnie Querry

Melvin Lonnie Querry, 86, of Searcy, passed from this life to forever be with the Lord at 4:01 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at his home. He was born April 1, 1938, in Searcy, Arkansas to Andrew Lonzo and Mattie Pearl (Purkiss) Querry. On January 18, 1960, he married Christine Jones. They were married for 64 years. Melvin attended school through 12th grade at Searcy High School and went on to serve in the United States Army as a Morse Code Operator, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Upon receiving an honorable discharge for his service, he pursued a successful career in construction. He worked 48 years as a skilled brick mason, starting out as self-employed for many of those years, as well as working for W.E. Clark & Sons (Little Rock, AR) and Stebbins Engineering (Watertown, N.Y.) before retiring in 2009. Melvin committed his life to following Christ in 1974. He will always be an example to his family of living a life centered on Christ and walking humbly with God. His home was the place where his daughters and son-in-laws gathered each week to study the Bible, sing, pray and fellowship together. Melvin loved his family and enjoyed spending time with each one individually as well as the large group when they all gathered for special occasions. He loved watching sports, especially football, basketball, and baseball. He loved to watch the Razorbacks play. His favorite activity was crappie fishing. He always loved to fish and loved to take others along with him. He enjoyed yard work and providing food and lodging to many birds that would visit his home. He had a true servant's heart and was available to help family, neighbors, and friends anytime he could. He enjoyed his time with church friends setting up the Living Nativity at First Assembly of God for many years. In addition to his wife, Christine Querry, survivors include his grandchildren of his late and eldest daughter Darlene Webb; Michael Webb and his daughters, Shelby and Gracie Webb; Stephanie Sutterfield (Brandon) and their daughter, Jalynn Hood; daughters; Cathy Brasfield (Mark) their children, Caleb (Amber) Emberson, Colby (Mandy) Emberson, Mindy Balch (Chaz); Monica Emberson (Mark) their children, Adam (Jo Anna) Emberson, Amy Dreher (Gil); Cynthia Peebles (Mike) their children, Tony (Heather) Davis, Sarah Sutterfield, Leslie Hicks (Brandon), Danielle Churchwell (Wes); Karen Shepherd (Randy) their children, Lauren Reynolds, Jay Reynolds, Brandy Gieson (Shalin), Tiffany Moore, Reed Shepherd; 21 great-grandchildren; Reese, Kora, and Kitt Emberson; Aubrey Killins (Zack), Hadley and Presley Emberson; Abigail, Dillon and Madalyn Balch; Emberlynn and Easton Dreher; Gage Davis; Trance and Teagan Sutterfield; Brayden Walker; Case, Brycen and Caiden Churchwell; Brooklyn and Shepherd Gieson; Haylee Moore; brothers; Jerry Querry; sisters; Linda Speer, Judy Yarbrough (Bob); half-sister; Sandra Querry; step-sisters; Lollie Wright (Howard) and Faye Taylor; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; firstborn daughter, Darlene Webb; grandson, Andrew Emberson; sisters, Bobbie Bolan, Erma Bolan, Betty Ryan and Glinda Chasteen; brothers Ralph Querry, Stan Querry; half-brother, Jim Querry; step-brother-in-law, Ray Taylor. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy, AR with service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Interment will be at Gum Springs Cemetery in Searcy, AR.
