October 1, 1921 - October 14, 2020
Pauline Mason, 99, of Velvet Ridge, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Unity Health Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. She was born October 1, 1921 in Dripping Springs, Arkansas to the late Otis and Roxie (King) Tuggle. She was the last living sibling of 12 children born to Otis and Roxie. Her sisters included: Lucille, Bessie, Dessie, Hazel, and Helen. Her brothers included: Jody, Cleveland, Dewey, Leck, Robert, and Claude. She spoke of them often and you could always feel the love she had for each of them. She was preceded in death by her husband, Conley Mason, a very special son-in-law, Jimmy "Chopper" Langston, and sons, Darrell Mason and Jerry Mason. She found the love of her life, Conley Mason, and married him in 1939 at the age of 18. They spent 32 years together before Conley passed away in 1971. They raised 7 children together. Left to cherish her memory is Melba Dunn (Jimmy), Geneva Johnston (Jessie), Louzelle Langston, Johnny Mason (Carla), and stepdaughter Annetta Duncan. She loved each of their spouses as her own children. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and 1 great great great grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless family and friends. If you were fortunate enough to call her friend or family, you might have eaten her remarkable cooking. She was well known for her amazing biscuits. She told us many stories about making her biscuits three times a day for her husband and children when she was younger. Besides being an amazing cook, she could sing, sew, quilt, garden, and play baseball. Reading the bible was also one of her favorite past times. She read it from front to back several times. Attending church for each and every service was important to her. She often talked about her beginnings in the church starting at the young age of 16. She was a devout member of the Velvet Ridge Church of Christ and loved her church family. Her commitment to God was evident in everything she did in her life. Some of our favorite memories as a family include listening to her stories, eating at her table hearing the song how many biscuits did you eat this morning, and watching her gather her money and gift at Christmas gatherings. She would also be waving from her rocking chair on the porch as you would leave her house. Some described her as invincible, timeless, and most definitely a treasure. It's with great sorrow that we say goodbye, but we all know "Granny Mas" is in heaven watching over each of us and paying close attention to her boys. Visitation will be Saturday, October 17 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Velvet Ridge Church of Christ with services starting at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Velvet Ridge Cemetery. www.powellfuneralhome.net.
