Sandra Gray Baker of Heber Springs, Arkansas passed away peacefully following a short illness at Unity Health Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. She was 78 years old. Sandra was born October 11, 1942 in Morrilton, Arkansas to James Homer and June Mason Gray. She was a 1960 graduate of Morrilton High School. Following graduation she moved to Fairland, Oklahoma to live with her uncle and aunt, James and Savannah Medlock Mason. While there she attended NEO A&M Junior College in Miami, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Wenona. Sandra enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, cooking, and helping others in the community. She was a faithful member of the Heber Springs Church of Christ. She loved her church family and it gave her great joy to serve in any way she could. She coordinated the church pantry, sang with fellow members at nursing home devotionals, worked diligently with Bible Bowls, potluck dinners, ladies devotionals, and other fellowship activities including her involvement with Southern Christian Home. She also helped in fundraising activities for Women for Harding to provide scholarships for Harding University students. With a compassionate heart and a giving spirit, she was always ready to prepare a meal, lend a helping hand or offer an encouraging word whenever she saw a need in her church, neighborhood or the Heber Springs community. She received the “Good Neighbor of the Year Award” for assisting her neighbors who were shut-ins or who had become ill by helping with cleaning, cooking, and walking their pets. She was blessed with a green thumb and received the Yard-of-the-Month award multiple times. Sandra’s personal request was that no services be conducted. Friends and family may share a memory of her by viewing her tribute page on Searcy’s Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service’s website.
