Barbara Jean Buchanan

Barbara was born on Monday September 29, 1947, in McCrory, Arkansas to the late Mose and Elteaser Buchanan. She professed a hope in Christ at and young age and united with St. John Missionary Baptist Church McCrory, Arkansas Barbara completed her early education at McCrory High School in McCrory, Arkansas, she graduated in the Class of 1968. She later moved to Gary Indiana and attended Ivy Tech where she obtained an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. She would go on to land her dream job at Elka Child Education Center... Where Elka is the KEY (1972-2013). Barbara flourished in her role as teacher shaping young minds for a brighter future until she retired after 41 years of service and guidance on September 13, 2013. Barbara enjoyed traveling, music and entertaining family and friends, after her retirement the next phase of her life would take her to Little Rock Arkansas where even retirement couldn’t hold her back. Barbara would go on to work at Care Link of Little Rock, Arkansas (2014 –2020) in the home Health division. She worked as a caregiver to many clients until her health would no longer allow her to continue. Barbara would live out her final days at the Woodruff County Health Center where on Tuesday January 9th, 2024, the lord whispered in her ear well done good and faithful servant. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. And Mrs. Mose Buchanan, three siblings Torie Buchanan, Antionette Buirts , Anthony Buchanan and nephew Termon Williams Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: her siblings, Mose Buchanan Jr. of Chicago Illinois, Arthur Wright of Little Rock Arkansas, Lawrence Buchanan of Gary Indiana, Hazel Sevier (Rev. Billy Sevier SR.) of Augusta Arkansas, Faye (Preston) Stennett of Joliet Illinois, Ronald (Carmen) Buchanan of Chicago Illinois, Helen Broyles of Grand Rapids Michigan, William Buchanan of Grand rapids Michigan, Jan Buchanan of Rogers Arkansas, Gwendolyn (William) Funcheon of San Antonio Texas, Rickey (Kevin) Buchanan of Cypress Texas and Christy (Juan) Wilson of Little Rock Arkansas. Brother-in-Law Maurice Buirts of Augusta Arkansas, Her God Mother Ann (Momma) Black and her best friends Milly Soney, Brenda Stains, Tavia Black and Jessie Fairly and very special friend Leonard Scott all of Gary Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
