Donald "Don" Hutchison

Donald “Don” Hutchison, departed this life on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the age of 80. He was surrounded by his family as he took his flight to heaven. Don was born June 21, 1943 in Augusta, Arkansas. Don began working in pipeline construction as a teenager and continued into adulthood, with Mary by his side, until he suffered a stroke. She was devoted to him and cared for him every day. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302 and Pipeliners Local 798. It was on the jobs across the country and overseas that he made everlasting friendships. If you met Don, you would never forget him. He always had a smile, always a funny story and colorful language to add to his story. He claimed he farmed for years but we all know that was Mary and LaDonna. He was more of a maintenance man, but he did finally show up. Always a story of where he had been and why it took so long. Don was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, but had a big heart for animals. He always had a dog or dogs. Bird dogs, squirrel dogs, snake dogs and usually a cat or two. He brought home strays but would get upset with Mary or LaDonna if they brought in a stray. Funny thing is the animals always became his best friend. His latest companion was Jakie – he stole forty dollars out of Mary’s purse to buy him. He wanted to know the Lord and trust he was going to heaven. Don was baptized by Randy in a bathtub. Again, always a funny story with Don, imagine all of us trying to get him out of the bathtub as he gave a play by play of the events. He attended the First Christian Church in Bald Knob and always looked forward to Sunday and going to Church. Don loved his family and was surrounded by them at every opportunity. You cannot have a memory of Don without a smile on your face. We cherish those memories and will never forget Pappy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Plumer and Lora Alred Hutchison and a brother, Bobby Hutchison. Don is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Elizabeth Capps Hutchison of the home; daughter, LaDonna Johnston and husband Randy of Bald Knob; two grandchildren, Shelby Miller and husband Mike of Bald Knob and Seth Johnston and wife Alyssa of Bald Knob; great-grandchildren, Rylen Johnston and Taylor and Maggie Miller; his devoted and loving brother, Gerald “Bud” Hutchison. Also surviving is his longtime friend and brother-in-law, Jerry Capps as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Bald Knob with visitation prior, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be privately held.
