Douglas Roy Sowers

Douglas Roy Sowers was born March 30th, 1960 and died February 10th, 2026. He was 65 years old, and beloved to those who knew him. Doug was known for being helpful and caring to anyone who needed him, defending those who had no one to defend them, and being a general menace with a heart of gold. He was born in Warren, Ohio to Raymond Eugene Sowers and Carol Ann Sowers who spent the better part of Douglas's early life training him in the faith, model airplanes, and general shenanigans. A rebel from birth, Doug carved his own life as a seaman in the Navy. He was awarded a bronze star for saving his entire platoon, all of whom he outlived. While he was a hero to his country, he told no one. Characterized by his love of his country, Harley Davidsons, and mechanic work, Doug's life, while wrought with troubles, was spent in service to others. His life ended in Bradford, Arkansas with his family of his own choosing. Doug leaves behind a legacy of love for his many bonus children and grandchildren, though he had none of his own by blood. He is survived by his brother Ronnie (Virginia), niece by bond Haley (Joe) and her children Natalie and Abby, niece by bond Moriah (Scott) and her children Jeremy, Katelynn, and Kole, and bonus grandchildren Bekah and Caleb. He was the M.O.D. (my other Dad) to Rebecca Malin (Jarod) and her own legacy of bonus children, Jasmine, Alex, Colton (nephew), and Jonathan. He taught us that family is made in more than one way, and he will be dearly missed. He was met in heaven by his sister by bond, Carolyn Swain, brother by bond Jimmie Swain, nephew by bond Jacob Gibson (father of Colton, Caleb, and Bekah), his father Eugene, his Mother Carol Ann, his sister Annie, and his dear friend Alfie Flowers. Doug will always be remembered for his unhinged form of affection and the way that he broke every rule with a good heart. We’ll always imagine hearing him cussing at his car, cackling at his own jokes, and drinking more coffee and Mountain Dew than should be humanly possible. We couldn’t have asked for a better friend, and will miss him every day. Doug's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. Services will be Monday, February 16th at the home he shared with Carolyn in Bradford, Arkansas. Donations to homeless veterans would be greatly appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 biginning at 4:00 p.m. at 106 Northeast 3rd Street, Bradford, Arkansas. Arrangements are entrusted to Powell Funeral Home of Bradford.
