Margie Burge

Margie Lee Mc Doniel Burge was born to Wilie James and Liza Leona Conner McDoniel on April 10, 1915, in Magness, Arkansas, and received her angel wings on January 26, 2013. Waiting in Heaven to welcome her were the love of her life for over seventy years, Reverend Moran F. Burge; her parents, better known as Daddy Mac and Mom Mac; siblings Ora Belle Ragle , Adeline McDoniel, Juanita Caldwell, W. J. McDoniel, Elizabeth Ward, and Eloise Garner; and daughter-in-law Lois Burge. Left here to miss her, are her sons Bill Burge of Springfield, Virginia; Dennis (Linda) Burge of Durant, Oklahoma; and Hugh (Lou Ann) Burge of Judsonia, Arkansas. Also surviving are Margie's sisters, Lorene McPherson of Heber Springs, Arkansas and Josephine Gardner of Newark, Arkansas. Loving their sassy, feisty little grandmother are six grandchildren, Frances (Don) Pease, Elaine (John) Algeier, Stormy (Terry) Reynolds, Chris (Oshana) Burge, Mandee (Brandt) Carmical, and Robin Burge who each brought a special blessing to their Grandma. In these later years, a gleam in her eyes came through the "great-grands," Ashley Reynolds, Ryan Reynolds, Hailey Burge, Dillon Burge, Jack Algeier, John Thomas Carmical, and Kaitlyn Carmical. (The younger ones knew where the stash of Milky Ways was, and they knew Grandma was more than willing to share!) Margie was a Christian who lived her faith in every part of her life. She walked the walk and not just talked the talk as a wife, mother, grandmother, and as a Christ-strengthened woman. She was more than devoted to her husband and lived happily with him as companion, minister's wife, extreme care-giver and champion. Her sons were her true joy, and she always took great pride in them. No matter what, she took care of her "boys." Margie was a true student of the Bible who studied daily until her vision failed her in her early nineties. Although she scoffed at being called a, "Bible Scholar," she had an understanding of the Scripture that is unequaled by most. She taught dozens of Sunday School classes covering all ages in churches around the state where Moran pastored. She cherished and found especially fulfilling the twenty-one years she taught the Senior Ladies' Class at First Baptist, Fordyce, Arkansas, where they lived after Moran retired from the ministry. Until her accident on August 16, Mom/Grandma really wasn't ninety-seven. Those meeting her for the first time thought she was a spring chicken in her seventies or maybe early eighties and were surprised to learn her real age . She was spry in demeanor, attitude, personality, as well as in her appearance. In her words, "I just try to look presentable." In our words she always looked like a "lady" from her fashionable little head to the tips of those pointy-toed, high-heeled shoes she so loved! There seemed to be a mutual admiration between Margie and flowers. She loved them and they loved her in return although she sometimes spoke sternly to them and even "trimmed" them beyond recognition! They always came back and did their best to dazzle her with their beauty! Her gardens in Heaven are in for a treat! Her gardens left on earth are saddened but thankful for the love and care she gave so fully for such a long time. The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 29. 2013, at 11:00 am at Powel Funeral Home Judsonia/Bald Knob. Visitation will be at 10:00 am prior to the services. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville, Arkansas.
