Thomas N. Tierney

Thomas (Tom) Norman Terney was born on the 4th of July 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were John and Dorothy (Walsh) Tierney. After graduating high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and was sent to Connecticut for Engineman School. He was assigned to a US Coast Guard Cutter as a diesel mechanic. After being discharged from the Coast Guard he worked for United Diesel outside of Chicago. Under this employment he worked on many large diesel engines from large machinery digging the tunnels in downtown Chicago to barges on the river plus the Cummins Diesel engines. Tom and his first wife, Sharon, had a son, Thomas (Tommy) Nathan Tierney. They resided in Franklin Park, Illinois for several years. A few years after their divorce, he then moved to Arkansas and married Carol Baker Konopinski. Tom and Carol Tierney have resided there for 42 years. Some of Tom’s passions were building and working on automobiles, especially antiques. He loved to attend Street Rod Shows and belonged to NSRA. He liked to listen to Old Time Radio and would read educational material on automobiles. Another favorite hobby of Tom’s was trout fishing. After working for a diesel shop in Southside AR, he became a MAC Tool Mobile Retailer. Tom’s last business venture was his heat & air business Carol Comfort Systems. Medical issues forced him into retirement. Preceding Tom in death are parents, John & Dorothy Tierney; brother, Jack Tierney; brother in-law, Jack Barch and his ex-wife Sharon (Magsin) Jablonski. Left to honor his memory, wife, Carol Tierney; son, Thomas (Tommy) Tierney and (PJ Murphy) of Indiana; stepson, Kenneth Konopinski of Bradford; stepdaughter, Dona McSpadden of Fayetteville and stepdaughter Andrea Zachary and (Jimmy) of Maryland. Grandchildren, Kristen (Brandon) Zigler of Indiana, Kelsey and (Nick) Stephey of Michigan and Konnor and (Jaycee) Tierney of Indiana. Step grandchildren, Kristopher and (Crystal) Konopinski of Judsonia, Linden Brady of Fayetteville, Taylor Brady of Chicago, Makenzi and (Dom) Pompell of Virginia, Ashley Zachary of Maryland and 14 great grandchildren. A Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home in Bald Knob on July 3, 2026, 1:30-3:00p.m. Followed by a Graveside service with military honors at 3:00p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery Pavilon in Judsonia. Arrangements entrusted to Powell Funeral Home of Bald Knob-Judsonia.
